North Connaught College are delighted to be able to offer from September 2019 a new course in Equine Studies and Horsemanship. There are two options, a Level 5 and a Level 6. Both courses are one year in duration. The aim of the course is to provide the learner with the knowledge skills and competence to work in a range of equine settings (riding schools, trekking centres, stud farms, etc.), or to prepare them for a supervisory role in a stable with sport horses or race horses, or to progress to further education.
Both courses are very well designed. As well as covering the practical areas of equine studies such as sport horse riding and instruction, stable and yard routine; they also cover classroom-based theory such as equitation theory, nutrition, anatomy & physiology. There are also business-based modules including work practice, communications, customer service and start your own business.
Students also spend time in an equine establishment to gain vital work experience in the industry.
The BHS (British Horse Society) qualifications which learners will achieve on the course are very much sought after by employers, especially in riding schools and trekking centres.
